Melvin L. Guest, Jr. "Ludy"
Melvin L. Guest, Jr. "Ludy", 83, passed away Friday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center where he had been a patient. Ludy was the son of the late Melvin L. Guest, Sr. and Edna (Ritter) Guest. Ludy is survived by his wife of 58 years Nancy (Kline) Guest, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Ludy was a 1944 graduate of North Coventry High School. He joined the Navy and served as a Navy Seabee First Class from June 1944 to June 1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific. He was extremely proud of his service in World War II. After returning from the war Ludy operated Ramble Inn Garage and Soda Fountain with his parents. Ludy and Nancy later owned and operated the Modern Motel, North Coventry for more than thirty five years. Ludy most recently was employed by Kulp Car Rental, Gilbertsville retiring in January 2009. Ludy was a dedicated community volunteer. He was past president of the North Coventry Fire Police from 1980-1983. His father Melvin Sr., was one of the original founders of Norco Fire Company in 1951. Ludy was also North Coventry Emergency Services Director, member of Coventry Lions Club, Stitcher Lodge #254 F&AM, Pottstown, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk's Lodge #814, Pottstown, and the famous Bucktown Boosters. He is survived by his nephews Chris Brown and his family, Kimberton, Jeff Brown, Wilmington, DE; three great nieces and his godchildren Bill Deegan, and Susan Deegan-Watson, Chester County. He was predeceased by a son Timothy Guest. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be private. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to St. John's United Church of Christ 11 South Price Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. Cards of condolences may be sent to Nancy Guest 100 Freemason Dr. 1581B Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
