  Robert Z. Fillman

Robert Z. Fillman, 87, of Pottstown, PA, husband of the late Sara E. (Eddinger) Fillman, died Friday at Manor Care Health Center, Pottstown.

Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Donald S. and Alice (Zollars) Fillman.

Robert was a 1941 graduate of Pottstown High School. He was employed as a Machine Operator with Neapco, Pottstown retiring in the mid 1980's. Prior to his employment with Neapco he had worked at Spicer's, Bethlehem Steel, Spring City Drawn Steel, and the Boyertown Casket Co. He had also worked as a crossing guard at Lincoln School until last year. He was a US Veteran of the Navy as a Machinist Mate Third Class with the YMS-176 division serving during WWII. Mr. Fillman was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Pottstown. He was a member of the West End Fire Co., Stowe, Knights of Columbus, Empire Hook & Ladder Fire Co., Goodwill Fire Co., Manatawny Association; VFW; American Legion in Palm; Pottstown German Club; and the Loyal Order of Moose; Tri-County Area Hall of Fame; United States Bowling Congress; Pottstown Bowling Hall of Fame; and various other organizations. Robert had received 30 year awards for the PA State Senior Bowling Tournament and the PA State Bowling Tournament. He played baseball on various teams around Pottstown. He had coached Pottstown Baby Steelers & the York Street Hotel Baseball Teams. At one time he was offered a Minor League contract with the Boston Red Sox. He was active with various traveling teams where he would shoot Pool, Shuffleboard, and Bowled.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald K. Fillman and his wife Laurie, Pottstown; Robert M. Fillman and his wife Judy, Allentown; one daughter Judith A. wife of Raymond Sedmak, Andover, Ohio. Five Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Claytor and Isabella Albright.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service on Wednesday February 3, 2010 at Highland Memorial Park, Farmington Ave., Pottstown, at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 am from the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St. Pottstown.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Montgomery County Association for the Blind, 212 N. Main St., North Wales, PA 19454; or the American Heart Assoc,., 777 Penn Center Blvd. Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235-5927.

Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA.
