Robert H. Kalis
Robert H. Kalis, 89, of Reynolds Avenue, Pottstown, widower of Verna (Levan) Kalis, died on Monday, at the Golden Living Center, Phoenixville, where he was a guest for approximately one week following a short hospitalization.
Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Howard E. Kalis, Sr., and the late Elnora (Mauger) Kalis. Surviving is one sister, Gloria Husband, of Chesterfield, Michigan and he was predeceased by one brother, Howard E. Kalis, Jr., and three sisters, Eleanor Kalis, Doris Kalis and Ruth Endy.
Mr. Kalis was in the Army during World War II serving with the Army’s First Infantry Division (the “Big Red One”). While with the First Infantry Division he participated in multiple major battles and campaigns in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. While participating in the Normandy invasion Mr. Kalis was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. In addition to multiple service and unit medals and citations he also received the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Service Medal.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be private and there will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home and Crematory at 359 King Street, Pottstown.
