Four Generations


First Generation: Ammon Romich married to Clara, where they had four daughters and one son; Mary (Romich) Tyson wife of John Tyson, Bessie (Romich) Ritter wife of Rev. Norman Ritter, Florence Romich, Cora (Romich) Schumacher wife of Raymond A. Schumacher and Irvin Romich husband of Nellie (Kelius).

Second Generation: Raymond A. Schumacher married Cora (Romich) in 1920. He attended Eckel's College of Mortuary Science, located in Philadelphia, becoming a licensed funeral director in 1936. He was the second generation by marriage of the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory. He and Cora had two children, daughter, Marie (Schumacher) Blatz wife of Rev. Frederick Blatz and son, Raymond Edward Schumacher husband of Mae I. (Fox) Schumacher.

Third Generation: R. Edward "Ed or Big Ed" Schumacher, Sr. became a funeral director in 1953, after the sudden passing of his father. Edward attended Eckel's College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, graduating in 1953. Ed married Mae I. (Fox) in 1953. They had four children, Dawn (Schumacher) Brendlinger, Linda (Schumacher) Martz, Robin (Schumacher) Benner and R. Edward Schumacher, Jr. Ed is a member of the Pottstown Rotary, Stitcher Lodge #254, Elk's Lodge #814, Train Collectors Association, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Pottstown. He is known for his love of trains, especially Lionel Trains. His hobbies are Waterskiing, Boating, and spending time at the shore (Rehoboth, DE) and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Fourth Generation by Marriage: H. Michael Benner joined the family in 1983 when he married the youngest of the Schumacher daughters Robin. He is a 1978 class graduate of Perkiomen Valley High School, Collegeville. After graduation he attended Automotive Training Center, Exton, where he polished his automotive skills as an Auto Mechanic. Michael then attended Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, where he earned a degree in Funeral Science Education, graduating 1988. Michael and Robin have two children, Aubrey Elise and Austin Michael. He is currently the fourth generation by marriage. Michael is a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Pottstown; he is also active in the Pottstown Ambuc's, Pottstown Classics Car Club, Elk's Lodge #814, and Stitcher Lodge # 254. He enjoys spending time with his family. Some of his hobbies are Waterskiing, Snow Skiing, Snow Boarding, a car enthusiast and NASCAR. He has a passion for helping the community, building Soap Box Derby cars, not only for the race that occurs here in Pottstown, but to have families enjoy Derby as a family sport.

Fourth Generation: R. Edward "Eddie" Schumacher, Jr. is a 1988 graduate of Pottsgrove High School. He attended mortuary school at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, where he graduated in 1992 with a degree in Funeral Service Education. Eddie met his wife Kimberly L. (Richards) while in college and they were married in 1993. Together they have a son Tyler Edward. He is currently the fourth generation. Eddie is a member of the Pottstown Rotary Club, Stitcher Lodge # 254, Elk's Lodge # 814, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Pottstown Train Collectors Association, and also a board member of Meals on Wheels, Pottstown. He played basketball for Pottsgrove High School and loves to watch sports. He is an avid train collector along with his son, attends many Donzi events on the east coast, and loves to spend time with his family on their Donzi boat at Lake George and the Upper Chesapeake Bay.
