Louise Pierce (Starratt) Rhoads died peacefully on August 25, 2017 at the age of 94, with family by her side in the Berkshire Center, Exeter where she had been a resident since October 2016. She fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in January 4, 1923, in Braintree, MA (the town of the Presidents, as she so proudly told everyone), she resided in South Weymouth, MA until December 1945 when she moved to Pottstown.

She was the daughter of the late Erle Russell and Dora Viola (Pierce) Starratt.

She graduated in 1940 from Weymouth High School. After moving to Pottstown, she worked at Firestone, Modern Age Hosiery and retired in 1978 from Norco Foundry & Specialty Co.

Louise was a member of St. Paul’s UCC, Pottstown since 1946. For many years she folded the weekly bulletins and the monthly newsletter. She was a Girl Scout leader, member of the Doe Club, Pottstown, past president of the Women’s Club of Pottstown. She was a volunteer at Freedom’s Foundation, American Red Cross, United Way of Pottstown & Upper Perkiomen Valley, and a Golden Sage worker at Franklin Elementary School.

Louise loved to travel having been to the Holy Lands, Greece various provinces in Canada, Maine to visit her sister Lucy and to Florida to visit her son & grandchildren. Her favorite trips were to Westport, Ontario to fish and to Penn State to cheer on the Nittany Lions in football. She had season tickets since about 1964 and did not miss many games. She even went to the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl.

She loved to garden, bake (especially Christmas cookies) and knit. She knit mittens for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors, the kids at Franklin Elementary School, and the mitten tree at St. Paul’s UCC in Amityville, PA.

She is survived by a son, George O. Rhoads, Jr., and his wife Aida (Venegas), Palm Beach Gardens, FL; a daughter, Jacqueline L. (Rhoads) widow of Charles W. Hertzog, Jr., Birdsboro; six grandchildren, Christopher Rhoads husband of Debbie, Estero, FL, Martina (Rhoads) wife of Peter Kryzwicki, Apex, NC, Elizabeth (Rhoads) wife of Thomas Wildner, Port St. Lucie, FL, Giles Rhoads husband of Autumn, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Nichole M. Hertzog, Reading, Charles W. Hertzog, III fiancé of Tabby Blair, Birdsboro; and eleven great grandchildren in FL, NC, and PA. She was predeceased by her husband George O. Rhoads, Sr., two sisters, Mildred Dietz, Lucy Damon, and a granddaughter, Anne Marie O’Brien.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at St. Paul’s UCC, 927 N. Franklin St., Pottstown. Officiating will be the Reverend James Dunn & Rev. Dr. Alan Kramer-Moyer. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park. There will be a viewing Tuesday from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the church.
