Robert H. Trainer lifelong nickname Skip, also known by many as the “Stickybun man”, 88, of Boyertown; formerly of Pine Forge, husband of Louise H. (Harner) Trainer, passed away on Sunday at Chestnut Knoll, Boyertown.

Born in Amityville, PA, he was a son of the late William H. Trainer and the late Ida R. (Rhoads) Trainer.

Skip worked at Cloverleaf Dairy, Schultz’s Bakery, and Maier’s Bakery in sales and delivery. Skip also had a long and very successful career with The Prudential Insurance Company as an Agent from 1968 until his retirement in 1996. He was often in the top one percent of the company for Sales and Quality Service. He achieved numerous President’s Citation Awards, and was a regular Million Dollar Round Table Qualifier. He was most proud and honored to have been able to serve hundreds of families in the community as they planned for their family’s security.

He grew up as a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amityville and then transferred to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in 1968. He served in his church for decades in various leadership positions as well as teaching youth in Sunday School. He was also a member of his church choir since youth and was often a featured soloist in both the choir and many weddings over his lifetime.

Skip sang with the Spring Street Songsters and was involved with the Boyertown Senior Center. Skip and his brother in-law, Merle Harner, founded the Pine Forge Baseball Organization in 1970. Along with his wife Louise they were also founding members of the former Glendale Swimming Association.

Skip was a Douglass Township (Berks) past Supervisor and Chairperson and was a Past President of the Tri-County Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He enjoyed collaborating with the Pine Forge Seventh Day Adventist Academy in numerous fundraising endeavors. Skip was a member of the Boyertown Exchange Club, Amity Fire Co., Friendship Hook & Ladder Fire Co., Pine Forge Sportsman’s Club and Athletic Association.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert W. Trainer, Boyertown, B. Douglas Trainer, Pine Forge; a daughter, Sandra L. Klink, Douglassville; five grandchildren, Bradley S. Trainer, Megan A. Spencer, Caitlyn S. Marrella, Adam J. Trainer, Rachel K. Trainer; and two great grandchildren, Gavin D. Trainer, Ainsley B. Marrella. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph S. & Harold R. Trainer, and a sister Betty M. Weidner.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Thursday December 20, 2018 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1312 Old Swede Rd., Douglassville. Officiating will be Reverend Steven Simpson. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Amityville. There will be a viewing Thursday from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at the church.
