Stephen J. Skarbek, Sr.

Service Scheduled for: Saturday, Jun. 6 11:00 AM
Died: May. 30, 2020
Stephen J. Skarbek, Sr., 55, of Pottstown, devoted husband of Heather L. (Carver) Skarbek, passed away on Saturday in Pottstown.

Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of Joseph R. and Carol J. (Wagner) Skarbek, Pottstown.

Steve graduated from the former St. Peter’s Catholic Elementary School and the former St. Pius X High School, where he was a standout athlete in Football, Basketball and Track & Field. He then went on to play football at the University of Delaware.

Steve married his wife, Heather, in 1998 and they had two sons. He continued his sports legacy as a baseball and football coach for many years, and was completely devoted to his family. He was the most “thoughtful, creative and beautiful man” his wife has ever known and his family loved him completely. His legacy continues on in his incredible sons.

His remarkable athletic skills were equally matched by an energetic, fun-loving, warm personality and a smile that lit up any room he entered. All of this made Steve Skarbek seem “larger than life” to so many who knew and loved him. Steve had more friends than anyone could count — and he was an “old soul,” who would drop in at friends’ houses just to sit and talk, sometimes for hours.

He was the owner and operator of Poinier Street, LTD., a lumber reload out of Newark, NJ. Together with Heather, he also owned and operated the Royersford, PA Dairy Queen.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two sons, Stephen J. Skarbek, Jr., and Boyd A. Skarbek; two “little” sisters, Andrea (wife of Christian Channell), NJ; and Lori (wife of John J. Philbin), Raleigh, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 6 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Hanover & Beech Streets, Pottstown. Preceding the service, there will be a viewing from 9AM to 11AM in the gathering center of the church. A livestream of the funeral mass can be accessed via https://livestream.com/accounts/15847007. The family urges attendees to please respect social distancing and other pandemic protocols. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Steve’s memory to the Pope John Paul II High School Football/ Stadium Project, 181 Rittenhouse Road, Royersford PA 19468.

Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA.
