Walter “Chip” G. DePrefontaine, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was a graduate of Owen J. Roberts H.S and attended Lehigh University where he was a member of the Glee Club. Chip graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in environmental Civil Engineering. He worked at Lasko Metal Products in West Chester. In 1991 he was hired by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Philadelphia District until his retirement in 2018. Chip was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in Pottstown where one of his greatest joys was singing in the choir. He had a beautiful tenor voice.

Chip vacationed every year in Stone Harbor, NJ, walking the beach early every morning to see the sunrise. He also loved the Pocono Mountains and spent many weekends walking in the woods, picking blueberries, and making large batches of jam. When his children were young we spent a lot of time at Oak Creek Campground with the whole DePre Clan.

Chip was a member of the United Investment Club. He was the Secretary of the Neighborhood HOA, and a lifetime member of the Pottstown Quoit Club. Chip also had leadership roles in his children’s extra-curricular activities as they were growing up. He was also an avid Phillies fan.

Chip is survived by Leslie (Yohn) DePrefontaine his wife of 42 years, daughter Magan R. Diaz wife of Daniel and son Sean D. DePrefontaine husband of Patricia (Hinders). Also surviving are his sisters, Robin D. Gruber widow of Timothy, Michele D. Witmyer wife of Robert and Becki D. Dolhanczyk wife of Michael. He was predeceased by parents Walter and Nancy (Heimbach) DePrefontaine and Brother Kevin T. DePrefontaine.

Chip has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday November 9, 2021 at the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St., Pottstown. Officiating will be Reverend Robert A. Witmyer. Burial will be 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday November 10, 2021 at Pottstown Cemetery - West. There will be a viewing Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
