Sandra S. (Saigh) Zalenski

We are sad to announce the death of Sandra Saigh Zalenski of Linfield, PA who passed away on January 17, 2023 at the age of 80, after a prolonged illness.

Born in Harper Woods, MI, she was the daughter of the late Philip Saigh and Velma (Vukmirovich) Saigh.

Surviving is her husband Dennis J. Zalenski, daughter Susan Zalenski Keckler and daughter-in-law Jessika; son Daniel S. Zalenski, daughter-in-law Leslie and granddaughter Lauren. She also leaves behind her sister Laura Saigh, as well as two nieces and two nephews.

Sandra attended Harper Woods High School and received her BA in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. There she met her loving husband, Dennis Zalenski; they married on August 14, 1965. Sandra lived in several places during her lifetime: Rochester, NY; Exton, PA; Charlotte, NC; Eden Prairie, MN and eventually she and Dennis settled back in Pennsylvania, closer to their children. A retired elementary school teacher, she went on to become a manager at the department store Strawbridge & Clothier, and later she was bank teller in both PA and NC. She enjoyed accompanying her husband on his work travels to explore new cities, especially local restaurants and museums. An avid bibliophile, she participated in the Great Books Foundation Program as well as many local Book Clubs. She was an unchallenged armchair “Jeopardy!” champion for decades.

Contributions can be made in her memory to the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
