Stauffer graduated from Amity high school in the class of 1946. His childhood and teenage years included early mornings/late evenings working at his grandparent’s dairy farm. He then spent several years working with his father building homes with Kutz Builders.
Stauffer’s formal career included a combination of professional pursuits and family owned business operations.
He worked in sales and engineering in the areas of electric heating, electric lighting, and cathodic protection. His sales territory covered the lower 48 states as he worked for West Chester Electric, Harry Bell Associates, ITE, Ceilheat, and Fromm Electric. The transitions to different companies sometimes included also changing residence locations, including Knoxville, Tennessee and Buffalo, New York, in addition to different Pennsylvania locations in Chester and Berks counties. Parallel to these professional activities, he built two different family-run businesses: Modern Motel and Kutz Miniature Golf Course and Driving Range. His stated purpose for these operations was to ensure his two children developed a solid work ethic.

After retiring, he spent his later years in pursuits with his brother, Samuel Albert “Al” Kutz. Initially they worked to expand the operations of the Kutz Christmas Tree Farm. Following that, they spent their last years at Al’s workshop in a labor of love, making untold numbers of custom wood keepsakes that were generously given to others.
