Paul L. Saltzer, Jr., 87, of Pottstown, widower of Doris M. (Schanely) Saltzer, passed away on Sunday June 9, 2024 at his residence.
Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Paul L. Saltzer, Sr. and the late Margaret (Hatfield) Nester. Growing up, he developed a very outgoing personality. He enjoyed making people smile through his unique wit and kindness. He often said that there were to many angry people in the world and his mission was to bring a smile to as many faces as possible.
Paul worked in the Engineering industry throughout his career, ultimately retiring from Reading Crane and Engineering Company.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pottstown. Additionally, he was a member of Nativity Commandery #71, Knights Templar, Pottstown where he was in the Knights Templar Cross of Honor, was a past commander, as well as a past district commander. He was also a member of Sticher Lodge #254, Pottstown, Royal Arch Chapter and the Pikeville Sportsman Association.
Paul enjoyed traveling to Germany, learning to speak and eventually teach German, and spending time with his friends who also enjoy the German culture. He also enjoyed completing numerous at-home projects and puttering around in the yard.
He is survived by a son, Thomas L. Saltzer, Lancaster; two daughters, Judith "Judy" Saltzer, Odenton, MD, Joanne "Jody" wife of David Grier, Enola, PA; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Richard B. Saltzer.
A viewing will be held on Thursday June 13, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King Street, Pottstown. It will be followed by Services performed by Nativity Commandery, Knights Templer at 11:00 A.M. The funeral service will be held 11:15 A.M. with Reverend Kay Bender Braun officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown following the services.
